Vishniac captures the everyday life of Jewish communities before WWII. Tension in the photos along with knowledge of the Holocaust creates a haunting yet different perspective on Jewish communities before the war. The mind is led to wonder about what occurred between the photos being taken and the evil of Auschwitz. The photography leads to an appreciation of ordinary life in the Jewish communities which in turn expands one's sense of horror about the Holocaust.
